Goff Public has been busy providing media training seminars to organizations throughout Minnesota this summer. We discuss the current media landscape, explain reporters’ motivations and expectations, show examples of good and bad interviews, and provide guidance on developing effective key messages for various media settings. We also conduct on-camera interviews and analyze them with you, so that you can make and measure your own progress.

First annual Great Midwest Rib Fest kicks off at Mystic Lake

The first annual Great Midwest Rib Fest at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel was a huge success! Drawing more than 30,000 people from July 25-27, the festival featured eight of the country’s best rib cookers, nearly 50 art vendors, and free live music. Texas Outlaw BBQ in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, won the cash prize for best ribs. All local television stations, including KARE 11, covered the story.


reFRESH Bar at Mazopiya featured on KARE-11

Mazopiya in Prior Lake recently unveiled the new menu at its reFRESH juice and smoothie bar, the first retailer in the Twin Cities to dedicate more than half of its menu to green beverages. This kitchen segment on KARE-11 helped raise awareness of the reFRESH Bar’s heightened focus on green, leafy vegetables inside its delicious juices and smoothies. Mazopiya – a natural food market that focuses on local, clean and organic foods – is owned by our client the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.


Flint Hills bluebirds ready to fledge

More than 50 bluebirds are expected to take the first flight from their nests at Flint Hills Resources in Rosemount this year, outpacing 2013’s fledgling population and the company’s average. From April-August each year, employee volunteers from Flint Hills monitor the 18 nesting structures located in a prairie ecosystem on the refinery property. RiverSouth welcomes visitors to the Land of Big Fun!

Four southwest metro entertainment powerhouses – Canterbury Park, Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, the Renaissance Festival, and Valleyfair – recently joined forces with the City of Prior Lake, the City of Shakopee, and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to create a united voice to promote the area’s attractions. This month the group launched RiverSouth, Land of Big Fun.

Emerson named One to Watch

Politics in Minnesota honored Goff Public’s Elizabeth Emerson, director of government relations, as “One to Watch” as part of its 2014 Leaders in Public Policy Awards. The Minnesota Innocence Project nominated Elizabeth for the award after she helped pass a compensation bill for Minnesotans who have been wrongfully imprisoned.


Pine Bend refinery launches new website

The Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery has launched a new website that includes everything from project updates to a “refining 101” page to videos about the company’s community partnerships. Located in Rosemount, Flint Hills Pine Bend has been a Goff Public client since 2000.
