Meet Nashat Ahmed and Miya Weber, our latest “Goffterns!” The Gofftern Program is an immersive, fast-paced internship experience for motivated students to gain valuable, real-world experience, make professional connections and launch their careers.
Nashat Ahmed
Nashat is dedicated to strengthening relationships through public relations. She joins Goff Public through our internship program as she finishes her final semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, majoring in strategic communications. Nashat will help write, research and monitor media for Goff Public’s internal and client-based projects. She is excited to learn more about how a public relations firm operates and is ready to gain skills in media relations, strategic planning, and everything that goes into successfully forming and strengthening the relationship between clients and their audiences.
Nashat is highly involved with the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) on a national and local level. Nashat serves as a council member of PRSSA’s National Proud Council, a team dedicated to upholding the organization’s Belonging, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (BDEI) efforts. Nashat uses the leadership skills and knowledge gained through this experience to advocate and connect with her PRSSA members in Minnesota as the University of Minnesota PRSSA chapter president. As a past digital media intern for Stearns Bank, Nashat has developed a keen eye for strategically forming messages relevant to any target audience.
As a Somali American born and raised in Minnesota, Nashat loves to attend Somali cultural events hosted throughout the Twin Cities and find new things to do, like going to new bakeries and cafes with her friends. Nashat is also a major iced chai enthusiast and has a continuous ranking system for her mission to find the best iced chai in town.
Miya Weber
Miya is a creative, detail-oriented designer passionate about visual storytelling. She joins Goff Public as our first graphic design and multimedia intern. She recently graduated from the University of Northwestern–St. Paul with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and minors in marketing, bible and art. In her role, she designs marketing materials, creates digital assets, and supports branding initiatives for Goff Public’s internal and client needs. While gaining hands-on experience in the creative branch of a busy public relations firm, Miya is excited to deepen her understanding of agency work, brand strategy and the role of design in effective communications.
In 2022, Miya earned the Prints and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) scholarship, which provides financial support to students pursuing careers in graphic communications, printing and other related fields to foster industry growth and innovation. For the past four years, she has managed the UNW Cheerleading Club Instagram page. Before interning at Goff Public, Miya worked with All Together Autism for her senior capstone project, helping develop start-up marketing materials for promotional use.
Born and raised in southern Minnesota, Miya loves embracing each season Minnesota has to offer. She enjoys ice skating in the winter, dancing with her team in the spring, hammocking with a good book in the summer, and gathering around bonfires with friends and family in the fall. She also enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, especially recreating store-bought favorites at home, with a special passion for coffee drinks.
