A story in the news today has deeply troubled me, so I thought it would be therapeutic to share my thoughts in writing.
My heart is breaking today for Alison Parker; Adam Ward; and their friends, families and colleagues at WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Virginia. They were murdered on live television this morning by a coworker with a grudge. The cowardly gunman filmed the entire incident, and the images are horrifying.
Reporter Alison Parker and photojournalist Adam Ward were killed by a gunman Wednesday morning while broadcasting live in Moneta, Va.
The Washington Post might think twice next time they consider publishing something that challenges Minnesota’s splendor.
On August 17, the national news outlet published “Every county in America, ranked by scenery and climate” – a seemingly non-controversial report on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s “natural amenities index.” To nearly everyone in Minnesota, though, this map was shocking – not only did Minnesota fare particularly poorly on these “natural aspects of attractiveness,” but our own Red Lake County was deemed “the absolute worst place to live in America.”
Major milestones – including anniversaries, expansions, and name changes – are ideal opportunities to celebrate employee achievements, show appreciation for your customers and supporters, demonstrate pride, and raise awareness of your organization and brand.
When Flint Hills Resources celebrated the Pine Bend refinery’s 60th anniversary this summer, Goff Public helped the company prepare for a large-scale, meaningful celebration. From developing a 60th anniversary logo, to telling their story through video, to helping organize a public open house, the anniversary celebration helped reaffirm why Pine Bend is one of America’s leading refineries. Congratulations to the people of Pine Bend for 60 years of producing transportation fuels for Minnesota and the region! Learn more about the Pine Bend refinery in this Rosemount Town Pages article.

Goff Public was among 65 companies honored by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal at the publication’s annual “Best Places to Work” event. We are especially grateful because this recognition is based on anonymous employee polling, and this is our eighth time to be recognized. Thanks to our team and clients for making this a great place to work!
One of the only constants in the news media is change. This summer the Star Tribune purchased CityPages and discontinued Vita.mn; the Pioneer Press moved from its longstanding building in the heart of downtown Saint Paul to West Saint Paul; MPR laid off nine newsroom staff members; and the Pohlad Companies’ Go Media purchased BringMeTheNews.
Goff Public closely follows these moves and knows that when sharing news with the media, an accurate, targeted list is as important as a well-written press release.
