Remember the first time you ever saw a hashtag? You probably thought, Why is there a pound sign in front of that phrase or Why aren’t there spaces between the words? It probably hasn’t been very long since you first learned about hashtags. They didn’t really take off until July 2009, when Twitter started hyperlinking hashtags so that they were searchable.
